Gold Rush Elementary ! 1/27/2022 Week 4:
I looked forward to visiting Gold Rush all week, mostly due to its incredibly cool name. I thought my elementary school, that Woodland Hills Woodsmen was cool, but Gold Rush is admittedly cooler.
As I awaited the delivery I thought about the Gold Rush that took place in Colorado nearly 170 years ago. I thought about how much has changed in that timeframe but also what hasn’t. Obviously our world today is drastically different than those times, but it occured to me that the reason I moved here, and the reason so many do, is for a perceived opportunity that Colorado and the west provide. Not much different than then, thousands of people move here every year to provide a lifestyle for themselves and their families that is so much brigher. There are a lot of things that go into that, but a large part of it is the quality of education and you can’t have a quality education system without a group of great educators. We cannot lose sight of the importance our teachers and schools are to every community.
I made an attempt at getting this message across in my video but I am still a work in progress. I also realized as I stepped out of the truck to take the video that I had actually forgotten to put on shoes and still had my house slippers on. Shortly after my video the bagels arrived and we dropped them off at the front desk with Chrissy. Chrissy introduced me to the principal, Jenny and we all got a good laugh at my footwear.
This week I will work more on my speaking skills, maybe actually prepare my statement for next week rather than winging it. I hope to also remember my shoes. More importantly, I will remember Gold Rush, their wonderful staff, and their awesome name.
